red oak
Red Oak

Red Oak is the most widely used hardwood species.  Color ranges from light brown to a pinkish reddish brown.  The wood is mostly straight grained with a coarse texture.  It stains stains and finishes very well in a variety of tones which accentuates the grain appearance.  Red oak is hard with great wear-resistance.

poplar Poplar
Poplar is typically light cream to yellowish brown in color, with occasional streaks of gray or green.  Sometimes mineral stained color also naturally appears ranging from dark purple to red, green or yellow.  The wood has mostly straight, uniform grain with a medium texture and closed pores.  Poplar takes and holds paint, enamel and stain exceptionally well.
cherry Cherry
Cherry varies from rich red to reddish brown and will darken with age and on exposure to light.  The wood has a fine uniform, straight grain, satiny, smooth texture and may naturally contain brown pith flecks and small gum pockets.  When sanded and stained, cherry produces an excellent smooth finish and is dimensionally stable.
maple Maple
Maple is creamy white with a light reddish brown tinge that can contain pith flecks. The wood has a close fine, uniform texture and is generally straight-grained, but it can also occur as "curly", "fiddleback", and "birds-eye" figure. It stains well and has an outstanding finish.  Maple  is hard and heavy with good strength properties, in particular in tis high resistance to abrasion and wear.

Hickory
Hickory is the hardest, heaviest and strongest American wood.  The sapwood of hickory is white, tinged with inconspicuous brown lines while the heartwood is pale to reddish brown.  It is coarse-textured and the grain is fine.  Hickory is extremely tough and resilient.

Southern Yellow Pine  -  Knotty
Southern Yellow Pine is considered a softwood.  It has a distinct grain of rich golden color that also displays cream and brown colors with occasional tight knots.  Southern Yellow Pine is an attractive species that is a cost-effective choice.
